ARTIST PROFILE

          Mengqi Fan was born in Sinkiang and grew up in Beijing, China. She came to the United States at the age of 17 and studied in high school in Los Angeles. She took a gap year back to China before going to college and traveled to different cities and areas. She captured various landscapes and local humanities which inspired her to make a great decision of her art career. So she brought her inspiration back to the States to achieve higher education in the art field. She obtained her BFA in Fine Art, with an emphasis in Drawing and Painting, from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. The artist currently lives and works in San Francisco. 
       Fan’s artistic talent was discovered by her family when she was very young. She studied traditional Chinese painting, understanding the variety of forms and value. Now she mostly focuses on figures and landscapes, based on what she has learned from the advanced courses of figure drawing/painting and landscape painting. In her current series, Fan uses the idea of abstract expressionism to create the art of nudity, confliction, and the illusion.
